North Korean mega resort to host international marathon next year: Promoter

Tokyo organizer claims DPRK approved course around Wonsan-Kalma resort, but event likely depends on COVID policies

A giant unfinished North Korean beach resort is set to host international tourists for a marathon next October, a Japanese organizer claims on a website promoting the event, despite the country’s ongoing border closures.

While plans for a “Wonsan-Kalma International Marathon” appear to have been in the works for years, the supposed upcoming event is not set in stone and likely depends on Pyongyang’s COVID-19 policies.
