What BTS’ Jin can expect from front-line military service at North Korean border

Former soldiers say serving on DPRK’s doorstep can be exhausting, but also recall things they enjoyed about army life

Jin, the oldest member of K-pop megaband BTS, said this week that he will complete training for South Korea’s compulsory military service at a “front-line” center, a revelation that has many fans concerned about the dangers he’ll face so close to the North Korean border.

”That’s so cruel, I don’t want them to go and do that,” one of the group’s fans, known as ARMY, wrote on social media. “Why put a national treasure in danger?” another fan asked about the training, reportedly a strong sign that the 30-year-old pop star will end up in a border unit.
