North Korea opens largest greenhouse farm in country to address food shortages

Kim Jong Un praises military for building sprawling facility on deadline, though some work appears unfinished

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended an opening ceremony for what appears to be the country’s largest greenhouse farm on Monday, according to state media, commending the military for completing the high-profile project to address food problems on schedule.

But it’s unclear whether the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm on the east coast is fully outfitted with equipment and ready to receive workers, as satellite imagery shows some areas of incomplete work after the military hastily carried out construction in 230 days to meet Kim’s Oct. 10 deadline, the 77th founding anniversary of the ruling Workers’ Party.
