Japan sanctions 5 North Korean companies, following US and South Korea’s lead

Measures signal US and allies are coordinating on unilateral sanctions amid UN Security Council deadlock, expert says

Japan sanctioned five North Korean companies Tuesday in response to the country’s accelerating missile tests, blacklisting entities previously designated by the U.S. and South Korea amid U.N. deadlock over new punitive measures.

Tokyo will freeze the assets of Hapjanggang Trading Corporation, Korea Rousan Trading Corporation, Sungnisan Trading Corporation, Unchon Trading Corporation and the North’s Ministry of Rocket Industry effective immediately, according to a press release from Japan’s foreign ministry.
