New head of South Korea’s arms procurement agency says national security situation unstable despite defense budget spike

South Korea should equip the military with weapons that can bring “crushing defeat” to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the state arms procurement agency’s new chief said in an inauguration speech on Thursday.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol tapped longtime bureaucrat and army reserve brigadier general Eom Dong-hwan to serve as head of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) on Wednesday.
