North Korea denounces ‘aggressive’ US-led joint exercise set to start this month

More than two dozen countries to join Rim of the Pacific drills through August, including South Korea and Japan

North Korea’s foreign ministry took aim at U.S.-led joint exercises and security pacts in Asia on Wednesday, claiming they are destabilizing the Korean Peninsula and heightening the risk of military conflict.

The criticism comes as the U.S. is set to lead the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise from June 29 to Aug. 4, with South Korea expected to participate.
