Lee Jong-sup’s statement comes as US, South Korea and Japan meet in Singapore to discuss North Korean threats

“Nobody would want” U.S. nuclear weapons to be deployed on the Korean Peninsula, South Korea’s defense minister said Sunday, as the new administration in Seoul pushes to improve deterrence against North Korean threats.

Lee Jong-sup made his remarks during a panel discussion when asked about the possibility of U.S. nuclear weapons deployment in South Korea at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore over the weekend.
