North Korea making ‘progress’ in COVID-19 fight but issues remain: Kim Jong Un

Authorities report almost 220,000 new suspected virus cases and one new death as Kim convenes another politburo meeting

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un convened the sixth meeting of top officials in just over a week early Saturday to discuss the country’s ongoing COVID-19 “crisis,” state media reported later the same morning.

Kim said the country has “made positive progress” battling the virus thanks to the party’s leadership and the country’s socialist system, according to the Rodong Sinmun, but he told politburo and health officials at the meeting numerous “issues” with the national response remain.
