North Korea tested ‘new’ intercontinental ballistic missile system: US official

Recent ‘reconnaissance satellite’ system tests were ICBM-capable platforms and represent a ‘serious escalation’

North Korea tested a “relatively new” intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system on Feb. 27 and March 5, a senior U.S. administration official said on Thursday, warning that the Treasury Department will take “actions” against North Korea in the coming days.

DPRK state media described those two tests as “reconnaissance satellite” system tests after a record seven missile launch events in January.
