North Korea reports no COVID cases as Omicron looms large in state media

DPRK says it screened additional 1,464 people over two-week period as total tested nears 50,000

North Korea has tested an additional 1,464 people for COVID-19 and found no positive cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with state media warning of breakthrough Omicron infections amid surging caseloads in the U.S. and Europe.

The DPRK has now conducted polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests on a total of 48,449 people after the screenings from Nov. 25 to Dec. 9, the WHO’s latest situation report shows.
