A North Korean man who escaped a Chinese prison in mid-October was arrested over the weekend, according to police in China’s Jilin Province on the DPRK border.

Ju Hyon Gon, 39, escaped from prison in the same province on Oct. 18. He was initially arrested in China in 2013 after crossing the border from North Korea and reportedly committing theft and stabbing a woman.

Prior to his prison escape, he was set for release in 2023, after which he would likely have been deported back to North Korea to face unknown additional punishment.
