Lee Jae-myung vows to meet Kim Jong Un but rejects Trump’s ‘rosy’ approach

Progressive candidate criticizes focus on ‘big deal’ with North Korea and claims sanctions have not worked as intended

Donald Trump’s approach to striking a “big deal” on denuclearization with North Korea was too “rosy,” progressive presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung said on Thursday, vowing to meet U.S. and DPRK leaders in person to resolve the deadlock since the failed Hanoi summit.

Lee added that international sanctions to squeeze Pyongyang’s weapons development have not worked as “Western countries” intended.
