Severe rains hit North Korea’s Yongbyon nuclear complex: state media

Flooding could damage or disrupt activity at the nuclear reactor, which has reportedly ramped up activity this year

Weeks after North Korea appeared to restart its nuclear reactor at Yongbyon, heavy rains totaling 136 millimeters, or over 5 inches, blanketed the area on Monday, according to state media.

Storms also hit the nearby counties of Pakjon and Unjon and the city of Jongju on Monday morning, dumping as much as 192 millimeters (over 7 inches) of rain, according to Korean Central Television (KCTV).
