A large hotel opened near the southwest North Korean city of Sariwon on Wednesday, official state media reported, following a construction process that stretched more than 10 years.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un did not attend the opening ceremony of the Jongbangsan Hotel but paid “close attention” to its construction, giving “detailed instructions” about how it should be built, according to the Rodong Sinmun.

Coverage of the opening ceremony made no mention of the long construction delays and did not hint at whether the hotel was built primarily for domestic or foreign travelers.
