US will appoint North Korea human rights envoy in future: Blinken

Biden administration has been critical of ‘egregious’ human rights abuses in North Korea

Washington is planning to appoint a North Korea human rights envoy in the near future, but the “vetting process” is taking a long time, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday.

The remarks come weeks after President Joe Biden appointed Sung Kim, the U.S. ambassador to Indonesia and an acting assistant secretary of state, to serve as the U.S. special envoy to the DPRK.
