Fed up with COVID-19 rules, dozens of diplomatic staff exit North Korea

In a candid Facebook post, Russia’s Embassy said that living in Pyongyang feels like “coronavirus detention”

Fewer than 290 diplomatic mission staff remain in North Korea after waves of expats and aid workers left the country in recent months, according to the Russian Embassy in North Korea.

The Russian Embassy posted the figure on its Facebook page on Thursday, stating that 38 people from diplomatic missions left the capital city of Pyongyang on March 18 and that their two-week quarantine in the Chinese city of Dandong ended on Thursday. The embassy also griped about months of what it called “coronavirus detention,” referring to restrictions on out-of-city travel and other issues that have led groups of diplomats and aid workers to depart the country over the last year.
