Activist says he launched 500,000 fliers towards North Korea to defy new law

Defector Park Sang-hak’s latest purported launch challenges a contentious law that can jail or fine leafleting activists

A North Korean defector claims that he launched thousands of propaganda fliers over the border in defiance of a controversial South Korean law that could potentially jail information dissemination activists for that very act.

Defector-activist Park Sang-hak claims that his group, Fighters for a Free North Korea (FFNK), used balloons to launch 500,000 leaflets and other items from South Korea’s Gyeonggi or Gangwon province sometime between April 25 and April 29.
