South Korea vows to address red tape slowing down North Korea aid

Unification minister says he will review South Korea’s system of approving every aid shipment before it goes out

Just days after North Korea threatened to dissolve organizations dedicated to inter-Korean talks, South Korea’s unification minister vowed to address hurdles that slow down organizations from providing humanitarian assistance to the DPRK.

On Monday, unification minister Lee In-young said that he will address barriers that make it harder for groups to steadily help North Korea. Currently, all South Korean organizations that pledge aid to the country have to jump through several hoops and get formal Ministry of Unification approval before shipping goods.
