The United States probably won’t lift sanctions against North Korea unless Pyongyang makes the first move and shows “some good faith,” a prominent U.S. lawmaker said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a Feb. 24 webinar hosted by the Institute for Corean-American Studies, Democratic Rep. Thomas Suozzi reportedly said that the Biden-Harris administration also needs to be “more strategic” when dealing with the DPRK.

“I don’t think that there’s going to be sanction relief in the short term,” he said. “I think there will have to be some sort of action by the North Korean government to show some good faith.”
