North Korea is blaming “apathetic” and “self-protecting” citizens for its economic problems in a new round of propaganda posters, using motifs previously reserved to denounce foreign pressure and sanctions.

The five new posters were released on Sunday to inspire North Koreans to follow the decisions made at last week’s party plenary meeting (plenum), according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). 

One poster calls for “categorically removing the ideological maladies obstructive to the progress” of the country, KCNAreported, showing the words “apathy” and “self-protectionism” in block letters being broken up in a molten furnace. By comparison, a
