Kim Jong Un berates North Korean officials for a rough start to economic plans

Kim kicked off a multi-day meeting on how to carry out economic tasks after last month’s Party Congress

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “sharply criticized” the country’s top officials for having “passive and self-protecting tendencies” while working on the country’s new economic plans, state media reported on Tuesday.

Kim reportedly made the comments a day prior at a plenary meeting (plenum) on 2021 economic goals and North Korea’s new five-year plan — the first gathering of top officials since the end of the Eighth Party Congress last month. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the meeting will continue until at least Feb. 9.
