North Korea talks new economic plan and military on day two of Party Congress

State media lacked details on Thursday, signaling a heightened level of secrecy compared to 2016, experts say

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly led discussions on military plans and a new five-year economic plan on Wednesday, the second day of the rare and monumental Eighth Party Congress.

However, North Korean state media was otherwise short on details on Thursday, with only the first page of the Jan. 7 Rodong Sinmun newspaper dedicated to Party Congress coverage. By comparison, the second day of the 2016 political event produced a highly unusual, 24-page edition of the paper that included a nine-page speech by Kim Jong Un.
