North Korea shines the spotlight on China during first day of Party Congress

A letter from China’s communist party came hot off the state press, but still nothing from other socialist allies

Kim Jong Un’s rare Party Congress opening speech lacked any explicit direction on foreign relations, but state media still highlighted one country in particular on Tuesday: China.

Arguably Pyongyang’s closest partner, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) sent a letter of congratulations to the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) on the first day of the Eighth Party Congress -- drawing attention to their special relationship in the process.
