U.S. forces successfully intercepted and destroyed a target meant to represent an intercontinental ballistic missile during a flight test demonstration northeast of Hawaii on Tuesday. 

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and U.S. Navy boarded a destroyer equipped with an Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system and destroyed the ICBM-representative target by launching a SM-3 Block IIA guided missile, according to an MDA release. 

The MDA did not directly mention North Korea, but the successful test comes roughly six weeks after North Korea rolled out its largest-ever ICBM during a provocative military parade on Oct. 10.
