North Korean leader Kim Jong Un initiated a nationwide “80-day battle” at a Politburo meeting on Monday, Oct. 5, according to state media, to achieve economic goals ahead of a planned Party Congress in Jan. 2021. The order marks the first productivity campaign since 2016, when 70-day and 200-day battles were implemented before and after the Seventh Party Congress. Kim’s top two military officials were also given the rank of Marshal of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) in the meeting — a rank not conferred since 2016.
