Jo Song Gil, the former DPRK chargé d’affaires in Italy who went missing in 2018, now lives in South Korea

A prominent North Korean diplomat who went missing in Italy in 2018 is now living in South Korea, lawmakers confirmed on Wednesday.

In Nov. 2018, Jo Song Gil — the former chargé d’affaires for the North Korean Embassy in Rome — went missing. His case later garnered international attention in 2019, with some calling the incident the most high-profile defection under North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s rule.
