Ryoo Kihl-jae, former South Korean unification minister, dies at 61

Ryoo served as unification minister during a tumultuous time for inter-Korean relations and routinely pushed for talks

Ryoo Kihl-jae, who served as South Korea's Minister of Unification (MOU) from March 2013 to March 2015, passed away from cancer in South Korea on Saturday. He was 61.

Ryoo oversaw MOU duties at a tumultuous time for inter-Korean relations, but his career still included several rounds of dialogue with a range of senior North Korean interlocutors.
