Biegun: China not ‘faithful’ on sanctions, but still in the ‘right direction’

The U.S. deputy secretary of state also called for the U.S. and South Korea to “rejuvenate” their alliance

Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun emphasized that North Korea remains an area of shared interest with China, despite Beijing's failure to fully enforce sanctions against the DPRK.

Speaking at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on U.S. competition with China, Biegun stated that both countries have an interest in establishing a “denuclearized North Korea that ensures peace and stability for all who live on the Korean Peninsula.”
