South Korea’s Navy, Army and Air Force were on Thursday set to hold a round of military drills, just one day after Pyongyang failed to pick up multiple calls from the joint liaison office and simmering inter-Korean tensions.

The drills — which could potentially be seen as a provocation in Pyongyang — are scheduled to take place on the beaches of Uljin, around 205 miles southeast of Seoul, local media reported.

Per protocol, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense (MND) told NK News that he could not confirm that the drills were taking place, citing security concerns.
