North Korea and Nigeria signed a bilateral agreement on public health last week, recent announcements from both governments revealed.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on June 17 after several years of deliberation — including a sideline meeting at the May 2018 World Health Assembly in Geneva — and was announced by North Korean state media on June 22.

Few details were given, but a statement by Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health said the country was seeking help in areas such as infection prevention and control, risk communication, risk reduction, mental health, and occupational health.
