Mother of abductee says Kim-Trump summit raises hopes for daughter’s return

PM Shinzo Abe says he will pursue bilateral talks with North Korea on the issue

The mother of Megumi Yokota, kidnapped in 1977 at age 13 by North Korea, on Tuesday said she hoped the first-ever U.S.-North Korea summit will lead to a breakthrough ending in the return of all of Japanese abductees.

U.S. President Donald Trump said at a press conference following his talks with Kim Jong Un that he had raised the issue of North Korea's abductions of Japanese citizens with the DPRK leader.
