A North Korean soldier crossed the heavily guarded land border with South Korea on Thursday morning, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

The low-ranked lance corporal entered South Korea on Thursday at 0804 local time, via the frontmost central area of the border between South and North Korea. 

There was no initial gunfire, the JCS said, and the soldier was subsequently sent to be processed by authorities.
