N.Korea to host int’l figure skating festival, invites participants and media

Sanctions and pressure could reduce scale of international participation

North Korea will host the 25th annual Paektusan International Figure Skating Festival in February, extending invitations to both professional figure skaters and broadcast media, a press release published by a China-based social enterprise group said on Sunday.

The 25th annual "Paektusan Prize" International Figure-skating Festival, which coincides with festivities to commemorate the birthday of the late leader Kim Jong Il, will include the participation of at least eight professional skaters – including one former Olympic gold medalist – Paektu Cultural Exchange (PCE), the group promoting the event, said.
