Chinese Communist Party-affiliated media has attacked U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter’s for recent remarks that Beijing bears some responsibility for North Korea’s fifth nuclear test, in an article in Huanqui on Monday.

“To look for who is ‘responsible’ for the North’s test, the U.S. certainly ranks first,” the editorial in the newspaper, which is published in English as Global Times, said.

The article argued that Beijing bears no responsibility for the actions of the DPRK.
