Foreign journalists kept away from N.Korean Congress, so far

Like 2012 rocket launch, visiting media diverted to other displays, unable to attend event

Foreign journalists in North Korea to report on its first Congress in 36 years spent a rainy Friday morning standing at an intersection before being taken back to a hotel and on to non-scheduled tour of a wire factory and barbershop.

Taken near to the venue after its stated commencement time of 9 a.m., the Washington Post's Anna Fifield said her local minders were unable to explain why journalists could not enter the hall or confirm if the Congress had yet begun.
