Food shortages in North Korea next year – experts

The DPRK may fall 1 million tons short of its food needs, according to a Seoul think-tank

North Korea will likely face severe food shortages next year as knock-on effects from poor harvests in 2015 take hold, according to experts at South Korea’s GS&J Institute, an agriculture focused think tank.

The food shortage may be the worst since 2011, with the DPRK potentially falling 1 million tons of rice short of the minimum 5.4 million required to feed its people.
