Human rights organization to sue Kim Jong Un over POWs

Detentions, forced labor constitute violations of Geneva Conventions, lawyers' organization notes

A South Korean human rights organization said on Wednesday that it plans to sue Kim Jong Un at the International Criminal Court over North Korea’s detention and mistreatment of Korean War-era POWs, KBS reported.

During a press conference at the National Human Rights Commission of Korea in Seoul, the Lawyers for Human Rights and Unification of Korea (LHUK) said that during the 65 years since the outbreak of the Korean War the North has illegally detained the South Korean prisoners of war, incarcerated them and required that they perform forced labor. The group said that it plans to hold Kim Jong Un accountable through its lawsuit at the ICC.
