North Korean media has announced further plans to develop a high tech development zone in the Unjong Science Park 30 kilometres north of Pyongyang.

According to the Pyongyang Times, the area – which already houses the DPRK’s State Academy of Sciences (SAS) – will cover two square kilometres and will house projects intended to attract foreign investment.

The new announcement and expanded plans follow a decree from the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly on the establishment of the zone in July last year. Prior to this, there was little mention of the park’s development, aside from the formation
