North Korean defector under investigation for espionage

Female defector accused of collecting information and sending it to North Korea

South Korean police are investigating whether a female North Korean defector living in South Korea’s Gyeongbuk province collected and sent personal information concerning other defectors to North Korea, the daily Joongang Ilbo reported Sunday.

The woman, who entered South Korea in 2011, is accused of collecting the home addresses, cellphone numbers, living conditions and other information of defectors living in Daegu and greater Gyeongbuk province and transferring some of it to North Korea. She is now under investigation for violating South Korea’s National Security Law.
