Initial scathing expert reviews target phone's derivative apps, useless Internet browser

North Korea’s Arirang smartphone reflects “the unsociable and backward characteristics of North Korea,” the South Korean Dong-A Ilbo paper said Tuesday, dubbing the device the “half-smartphone.”

The Arirang phone costs around $300-400 and is considered a product from China, although South Korean experts have confirmed that the Taiwanese semiconductor business MediaTek produced its CPU, GPS, Bluetooth and other parts.
