S. Korea loans to businesses hurt by North tensions

South's MOU to grant $19 million in loans to companies invested in Geumgang or trade with North

The South Korean government will grant a loan to South Korean businesses undergoing financial difficulties due to a halt on tours to Mt. Geumgang and sanctions on the North.

South Korea’s Ministry of Unification on Friday announced that the government has decided to lend a total of 20 billion won ($19 million) to South Korean businesses, including those who invested in Mt. Geumgang’s tourism business or imported goods from North Korea with advance payments before the May 24th Measure – the suspension of all inter-Korean economic exchanges except humanitarian aid in 2010.
