Kim Jong Un conducted his first ever public guidance meeting at a family compound this July, photos and video published by state run media have shown.
North Korean media reported three public appearances of Kim Jong Un on July 31. KCNA reported that his first meeting was with the players who won the 2013 EAFF Women’s East Asian Cup. He also enjoyed an archery demonstration and a soccer match.
Analysis of appearance video shows Kim Jong Un at a venue that satellite imagery has confirmed is a Kim family compound in Kangdong.
Because there is no guarantee that residencies of the former leaders are perpetually maintained, the guidance meeting appearances show that the Kangdong residence is still in use by the North Korean leadership. Despite his prestigious status, several of Kim Il sung’s residential compounds were torn down.

The Kangdong compound has been renovated and improved many times since it was visited by Kenji Fujimoto. Most recently it received a private railway spur and train station.
This Kangdong compound has not appeared on North Korean television since 2008, when Kim Jong Il also watched a soccer match on this field (the first time he is known to have attend a soccer match according to KCNA archives). Prior to that appearance Kim Jong Il had been publicly absent for some time and was rumored to be recovering from surgery or a stroke.
