Mark Stone of Sky News tweeted the following from Pyongyang on July 25, 2013:
Mark tweeted an image of the event (you can see it here). The picture was unauthorized and hit the internet well before official coverage was released by Rodong Sinmun or KCNA, the DPRK’s primary official news outlets. It very well may be the first image of Kim Jong Un to be taken and distributed over Twitter.
According to Michael Madden of North Korea Leadership Watch, the photo (taken from behind the official procession) features (L-R) Yang Hyong Sop, Choe Tae Bok, Kim Kyong Hui, Pak Pong Ju, Kim Jong Un, VMar Choe Ryong Hae, Jang Song Taek, Gen. Kim Kyok Sik in addition to two others who remain unidentified. Of importance to note is the attendance of Kim Kyong Hui, aunt of Kim Jong Un. Western media reports have recently speculated that she is in grave health.
The ceremony was for the opening of the Cemetery of the Fallen Fighters of the KPA. Construction of this cemetery was first noticed by Hannah Barraclough of Koryo Tours back in April 2013.
The cemetery is located in Pyongyang’s Sosan District near the Three Revolutions Exhibition. Recent Google Earth imagery of the construction site (June 1, 2013) shows it in the final stages of construction.
