A suspected North Korean land mine washed ashore on an island near the inter-Korean maritime border on Thursday, according to the South Korean military.
The anti-personnel mine was discovered near Daebinchang Beach in Ganghwa County’s Jumun Island, near Incheon, at around 3:30 p.m. KST, the ROK marines said in a statement Thursday evening.
The marines dispatched an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team to the scene, which safely detonated the suspected mine at around 5:30 p.m. without casualties or property damage, the statement added.
