A U.S. nonprofit has received a sanctions waiver from the U.N. Security Council (UNSC) to ship medical equipment for North Korean children with developmental disabilities, the first time in four months the committee overseeing DPRK sanctions has confirmed a humanitarian exemption.
On Sept. 18, the UNSC granted permission to IGNIS Community, a nongovernmental organization offering health and education support for North Korean children, to send 125 types of items worth over $106,750, according to a letter published Friday by the UNSC’s 1718 Sanctions Committee.
