South Korea will continue to help ‘create an opening’ for Trump-Kim summit: Lee

President Lee Jae Myung rejected concerns that Seoul could be sidelined if US and North Korea pursue engagement.

South Korea is “continuing behind-the-scenes coordination to help create an opening” for dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea, which in turn could help pave the way for inter-Korean dialogue, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said during a press conference at the Blue House on Friday.

Lee expressed hope for a summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, but added that the possibility could not be definitively determined at this stage.

“Whether they can hold a summit is one thing, but what kind of agreement they will reach is a matter for later,” Lee
