A North Korean man has found himself in legal trouble for attempting to bribe a Russian police officer in the Far East, facing a fine 12 times larger than the bribe itself.

The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court found the DPRK citizen guilty of attempted bribery and ordered the defendant to pay a fine of over $4,230 (300,000 rubles), according to the court’s press service on Thursday.

The incident occurred on the island of Sakhalin in early February, when the defendant handed over $350 (25,000 rubles) to a traffic police officer while sitting in the back seat of the officer’s car.
