North Korean women’s soccer team arrives in South for inter-Korean game

Cheer squads greeted Naegohyang players and staff, the first DPRK soccer delegation to enter South Korea in 12 years

A North Korean women’s soccer team arrived in South Korea on Sunday ahead of a highly anticipated inter-Korean match, the first time in almost eight years a DPRK sporting delegation has entered the South.

The entourage of 27 players and 12 coaching staff representing Pyongyang’s Naegohyang Women’s Football Club emerged with a rapturous reception at Incheon International Airport shortly before 3 p.m. KST.

Sporting navy blue jackets with a lapel badge that bore the faces of former North Korean leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, the Naegohyang delegation was greeted by news reporters and cheering groups.
