A South Korean military helicopter deployed to extinguish a wildfire near the border mistakenly entered the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), although North Korea has not publicly acknowledged the incident.  

A spokesperson from Seoul’s Defense Ministry confirmed to NK News on Sunday that its Surion helicopter, initially dispatched to tackle the blaze in the frontline area of Yeoncheon on March 23, flew within the DMZ during the firefighting operation.

The ministry is currently investigating the matter with the United Nations Command (UNC) to determine whether the ROK army’s helicopter crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), after ROK media reported on the incident
