All three of the ROK navy’s fleets are taking part in the five-day drills that mark the 11th West Sea Defense Day (서해수호의 날), according to a navy news release. The observance honors 55 South Korean service members killed defending the inter-Korean maritime border in the Yellow Sea from 2002-2010. The South Korean navy is conducting large-scale maritime drills along the country’s eastern and western coasts this week to reinforce combat readiness and honor service members killed in past North Korean attacks, the military said Thursday.

All three of the ROK navy’s fleets are taking part in the five-day drills that mark the 11th West Sea Defense Day (서해수호의 날), according to a navy news release. The observance honors 55 South Korean service members killed defending the inter-Korean maritime border in the Yellow Sea from 2002-2010.

The drills began Monday and are set to conclude Friday, the navy said.
